All is fair in love and magic
1. Books
Just because number one is obvious, doesn’t mean we get to leave it off the list. Pick back up that book you’ve been meaning to finish, or draw from that TBR list you’ve been neglecting.
My TBR List:
2. Blanket(s)
Thanks to my #bookstagram feed, I’ve concluded an essential item for read-a-thons and general reading ventures should always involve a blanket. Preferably fuzzy or furry, with the ability to wrap you in a cocoon if necessary.
3. Nook/Chair/Coved Couch Corner (C3)
In every household there is a favorite spot. Maybe it’s an oversized chair with matching ottoman. Perhaps it’s that sunken in corner spot on your couch. Whatever and wherever it is… CLAIM IT.
4. A Layered Wardrobe
I can envision your look of dubious surprise, but hear me out. We all want to be at our most optimal cozy with a blanket (đź‘‹ #2) and book of choice, but at some point your blanket might get toed away because of its over achieving insulation properties. You might even want to chuck off your socks to find some relief from the heat you’ve generated, but DO NOT abandon your socks! Wear a cardigan, or a comfy sweater—perhaps something like this here—to ditch instead. If a chill settles back over you, layer back up and never worry about leaving the comfort of your seat.
Beverages & Snacks (Do I really need to do a full explanation for this one?)
Beer + Coffee + Soda + Tea + Water + Wine
Cheese & Crackers + Chips + Chocolate + Cookies + Fruit + Popcorn + + Pretzels + Trail Mix
7. Tunes & Headphones* (Optional: Headphones)
Get extra lost in your book with some ambient music to accompany your read. If you have headphones to block out the daily patter of everyday life surrounding you—great! If not, everything will be just fine. Simply share your stupendous music choice out loud with your household.
8. Proper Lighting & Candles to set the “mood”
Be kind to your eyes! Don’t read in dim light, find a sunny spot or bring over a lamp to help you out. Also, candles are a wonderful addition to any reading venture. Why not check out the ones over at Wick & Whimsy to see if they match your mood/book.
9. Bookmarks
While I’m guilty of dog-earring my pages, I do prefer to have a bookmark on hand when reality grabs my attention. Always have something nearby on hand to mark your spot! A receipt, gum wrapper, or torn piece of paper.
10. Signage
I saw that side eye you just cast at me… Yes, I said signage. Non-bookworms can’t always read the proper signs when you’re in for a marathon reading session. At first glance, they’ll register how comfy cozy you look… they’ll admire your snack and beverage game… they might wonder what you’re listening too… but they WILL ignore the fact that your nose is literally in a book. So why not stay one step ahead and plant a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign (or 3-5) in front of you to curb the masses who seek your attention?
